Problem Solving Style
My MBTI type is INTJ: I solve problems intuitively by looking at systems as a whole. I prefer to invent new solutions rather than follow traditional approaches.
Although I prefer to work alone, I appreciate talented and experienced team mates who complement my shortcomings.
My top Belbin Team Roles are: “Plant, Specialist & Shaper”. This means that I like to try new things, learn a lot about my work and to take control of the situation that I encounter.
Work Experience
1) Freelance Computer Services (1996 - 2002)
Discovering my IT skills in my teenage years, I represented my school in computer competitions and helped solve problems for both my teachers and classmates.
I provided freelance computer services. My largest client was StarsSurfing International Pte. Ltd. The work I did includes:
- Computer Installation & Servicing
- Computer Networking using a 2-tiered network
- Maintaining an Internet server
- Increasing performance: By rewriting the program code, I cut the loading time of an e-learning application by 94%
2) Served Military Service (2002 - 2005)
During my compulsory military service, I was officially a clerk. However, I was tasked to handle more specialised work such as:
- Troubleshooting computers
- Debugging applications & macros
- Setting up battlefield simulations on a computer network
- Assisting with psychological research
- Providing staff training, especially with Personal Mastery
I achieved various awards:
- Outstanding Individual (Suggestions) Contributor Award
- Outstanding WITs Project Merit Award
- Outstanding WITs Team Award
- Excellence Award
I also volunteered with some corporate activities, such as:
- DMG Learning Fiesta
- DMG Personal Mastery Team member
3) Freelance Projects (2005 - 2007)
After my stint with the Army, I decided to explore my personal growth and potential before committing to my next career.
- Gave an informal talk about teamwork and vision setting to a volunteer club
- Assisted with an amateur video project which won 1st prize in an NCSS competition
- Helped set up TwinkleKids Theatre, an amateur drama project with children. I helped train the protagonist, wrote the script, chose the background music and rigged improvised stage and technical equipment.
- Helped set up a new company “Dream Dove Pte Ltd”
- Created 4 websites
- Volunteered to photograph some Buddhist and Christian events
To enrich my experiences, I became a volunteer of Global Village Association, a Macau charity, from late 2006 to mid 2007.
